Perhaps you are wondering if Aromatherapy can be used during labour and birth. This post will answer your questions and show you how to incorporate aromatherapy oils into your birth plan. They can help relieve pain and create a calm environment.

What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy uses essential oils and natural oils to create a calm and relaxing environment. This creates balance and a sense of well-being. This helps to reduce anxiety and makes it easier to cope with stressful situations. There are two most difficult situations in a woman’s life: pregnancy and labour. However, there are ways to make it easier. Aromatherapy can be used to ease the stress, anxiety, pain and discomfort that come with labor.

These oils can be used to enhance your well-being and are made from plant-based ingredients. Aromatherapy oils can also be used to massage the skin, infuse the room with the oil, or added to a bath. This alternative treatment does not replace medical advice, but it can be combined with other medications such as epidurals for labor pain. Aromatherapy with essential oils is a cost-effective, traditional way to ease pain during labor.

Many essential oils are very well-known and widely used, not only by pregnant women, but also for any mental or emotional problems. It is important to only use high-quality essential oils and not diluted oils. Absolute Aromas is my favorite supplier. They are not too expensive, the oils they produce are undiluted, and they have a long history with high quality standards. They are vegan and cruelty-free.

What Aromatherapy Oils Can I Use for Labour?

These oils can be used during pregnancy and birth. Before using the oils in full, you should always perform a patch test.

Lavender Oil is a favorite of aromatherapy users. It can be used to calm you during labor pains and before. You can use it to relax muscles by massaging the skin or using a diffuser. Lavender is known for its sedative and relaxing properties.

Another popular aromatherapy oil that can aid in back labor is peppermint oil. It can also help reduce nausea in pregnancy. Many women experience nausea and vomiting after giving birth.

Clary Sage, another name you may have heard, is an excellent choice for aromatherapy oils for labor. This oil is great for calming down nerves and helping to jumpstart labor. This oil is especially helpful when producing breast milk.

Frankincense essential oil is an excellent choice for aromatherapy during labor. Frankincense can be applied to the lower back, or put in a diffuser. The palm's centre is another great place to apply this oil. It can also be used as a moisturizer, which can be very useful at the end of labor.

Jasmine has calming properties and is very similar to Clary Sage. It can also induce labor and reduce pain during labour.

You might be more interested in aromatherapy kits or pre-blended oils blends than individual oils.

You can try these oils before you give birth to find the ones that work best for you. It's not worth it to get oils just for their benefits, but the smell can really put you off. For evoking deep feelings and memories, smells can be powerful. A feeling of calm, peace, and deep relaxation is what you want. You will have a better experience during labor if you are more relaxed.

Aromatherapy can be safe, but you should still exercise caution when using different types of oils. While some oils can be applied directly to the skin, others need to be diffused or diluted with carrier oil such as grapeseed oil. Applying oils directly to the skin can lead to allergic reactions. These oils are very safe and trusted by many women during pregnancy. This paper provides more information about aromatherapy and its use in labor. Lastly, consult your midwife before you try any other method of pain relief during labor. Enjoy a safe pregnancy.
