There are three things you must do when you prepare for a baby

It can be a lot of fun to prepare for a baby. You can make some of the most memorable memories. There are some more difficult tasks that you must tackle. These are just three.

Get rid of all your paperwork
There can be a lot of paperwork involved in pregnancy. You will need to update your will, and your life insurance. It's a great opportunity to check that all other pertinent paperwork is current. You will need some type of identification if you plan to travel. If your driver's licence is about to expire, you may want to renew it.

Although it may seem extravagant, you might consider getting a passport. Even if you don't plan to travel overseas anytime soon, or ever, you will know that it is there in case you need it. A backup ID will be available that you can keep separate to your driver's licence. This will allow you to identify yourself even in the event that your driver's license is stolen or lost.

Check the legalities of travelling to and staying in another country if you have international connections. At this point, you don't necessarily have to pay a lawyer. You can search the Internet for the type and country of visa that you need (e.g. spouse visa UK). This will give you an idea of the documentation required and likely costs.

Have Contingency Plans For Being Apart
Consider the possibility that you and your partner will have to be apart at one point. Make appropriate plans. These plans should be updated as you progress through your pregnancy. Keep in mind that your physical growth will slow down throughout your pregnancy. These plans may not work in the third trimester.

The arrival of your baby is going to present new challenges. The biggest challenge is likely to be lack of sleep. This can be very draining. You should make sure that someone is there to assist you if your partner leaves you.

Take a walk around your home in the dark
You will need to change and feed your baby throughout the night. You'll want to dim the lights when you do this. This is not only easier for your partner but may also encourage your baby's to go to sleep quickly again. This means that you must be able to navigate your home in the dark.

You can make your life easier by keeping baby items close to your baby. Even night-time meals can be included. A mini-fridge or bottle-heater could be placed in the nursery. It's good to expect that you will need to visit other areas of the house from time-to-time.

This can be done a few times before your baby arrives, preferably while you are tired. Then identify your "pain points". Next, deal with them. Pro tip: You can buy battery-operated lights that can be stuck to walls. These lights can be the best friend of a new parent.
