While isolation can be a problem, it is not the only way to tackle pregnancy.

Even the most difficult stages of pregnancy can seem daunting. Although you will be excited about the prospect of motherhood and birth, there will likely be fears. You'll also likely be dealing with a host of hormonal and physical limitations by this time.

Add 2021 to all that and then add the uncertainties and isolations. What do you get? You don't need all that extra stress! Although women in late pregnancy are considered to be at high risk, there is little evidence that they are more vulnerable to severe Coronavirus symptoms.

However, it is best to be safe and to stay at home. How can you maintain a support network if you're not allowed to see anyone?

This is not going to be a simple time. We'll be discussing here that there are still many things you can do to support yourself during this difficult phase of pregnancy.

Your midwife is your support

Although isolation orders may be contradictory, there is one thing that will remain constant throughout your pregnancy: your midwife is always there for you. As with all other pregnancies, you can reach out to your midwife at any time, and for any reason. They are just a phone call away if you have any concerns or emotional distress.

This is especially important to remember when you consider that many non-essential appointments can be made over the phone. This is merely to make you more secure. This doesn't necessarily mean your midwife isn’t available. If you feel the need to have an in-person exam for any reason, you are fully entitled to request one.

Safe ways to keep family and friends involved

It can be difficult to feel isolated in the third trimester. You should be basking in your pregnancy glow and getting ready to share it with all those around you. Instead, you are stuck inside feeling disconnected and less connected than ever.

There are many creative ways that you can keep everyone involved in your pregnancy. One of the best ways to keep communication open is through regular planned Zoom calls. There are many creative ways you can share the experience. You could also have a bump/maternity photo shoot at home with your partner. These can be sent to loved ones as a personalized card or a calendar that includes the prints. You could also make a maternity video and share it with everyone to show how beautiful your bump is.

These out-of-the box solutions will make you feel like your family and friends are right there, even though they may not be.

Virtual baby showers are a great way to make the most of them

Unfortunately, baby showers are not on the horizon. Many mums are left without the all-important baby milestone. But fear not! Many mums are looking for alternative arrangements to the current lockdown. Participate in the virtual baby shower

You can sign in to Zoom or Skype at a time that suits you and then get on with the fun. You can even set up a private buffet to eat while you chat. You can send gifts to friends in advance, so you can open them on camera. Any baby shower game can be played on a screen.

Alternatives are available if you don't want a live affair, or can't find the time that works for everyone during this hectic time in your life. Many moms-to be are now receiving virtual videos filled with messages from their loved ones. You could also create a group document where everyone sends their best wishes to you and your baby.

Whatever way you choose to do it, hosting an event for a baby shower is sure to give you that mom-to-be feeling and may even be enough to get you through this difficult time in your life.

Spend this time with your partner

Also, lockdowns can have some positive aspects. Our partners tend to be around more at this stage of your parenting journey.

You will have more time to prepare for your baby's arrival and you will also be able to spend uninterrupted time with your loved one. If you make sure to take advantage of this opportunity, it is a great way to bond with your family. Talk about date nights at home and lots of fun conversations while snuggled up on the couch.

Remember, too that your partner is not just there for the romantic stuff. It doesn't matter if you feel that you don't have the ability to talk with them about their worries and fears right now. They may be feeling the same. You will find that even national lockdowns are not a complete stop to you sharing your feelings with each other. The support you receive from the father-to-be of your child is the best possible company right now.

Last words

It is a frightening time in your life, and you're not the only one feeling it. It doesn't matter if you are unable to physically visit your loved ones, this doesn't mean that they won't be there for you in any way. Your partner and your midwife can offer support, even if it is virtual, that will be invaluable. This support won't last forever, so remember that. The pandemic and your pregnancy will end one day. This difficult time will end, and the whole experience with it will be a humorous anecdote for your baby, who makes the whole thing worthwhile.
