Pregnancy and your Teeth

Pregnancy and your Teeth

Pregnancy can affect your teeth, something most people don’t realize until it's too late. This causes your gums to swell and your teeth to become looser, which can lead to painful months. You may notice a reddening of your gums and bleediness after brushing. It is important to take care of your teeth before you become pregnant. However, you should also continue to do so while you have a baby.

Gum disease is linked to pregnancy. Even though your dentist may have gone through training in dental equipment, it's still possible that you feel nervous about anyone touching your sensitive gums. It is important to brush your teeth twice daily along the gum line using a soft toothbrush. However, you should see your dentist if you become pregnant. Your current oral and dental health will be assessed by the dentist to ensure that there are no further changes to your gums.

You should continue to visit your dentist even if you're pregnant. Don't be afraid to make those appointments. Your oral health and the health of your gums and teeth will impact your overall health. Let the dentist know if you're pregnant so they can advise you on how to maintain your gums and teeth while you have your baby. If you are able to avoid it, extractions and other procedures should be avoided.

Most dental treatments are safe for pregnant women. The only thing that dentists will not recommend is an x-ray. You will be given additional protection if you have to have one. You should continue to take care of your teeth at home, in addition to visiting the dentist. Pregnancy is the most important time to practice good oral hygiene. If you feel unwell from brushing, you can use a children's toothbrush to brush your teeth. Brushing your teeth without toothpaste is possible. Just apply some paste to your teeth, and don't rinse. You can then return to proper brushing once you are able. You can keep your teeth healthy by avoiding sugary drinks and eating healthy foods.

You may experience morning sickness and vomiting, which can impact your dental health. If you're vomiting, your enamel can be damaged quickly. You should visit the dentist frequently to make sure that your enamel remains intact as long as possible. Talk to your dentist if you have concerns about your teeth. They can add you to their schedule to monitor you. Your pregnancy should be as healthy and happy as possible. This includes your teeth. Book your appointment today.
