Hooray, you made it! Congratulations for being a parent for a whole year and surviving. It's a great day to celebrate your baby's first Birthday. This day is something that many parents look forward too for months. COVID-19 has made things a bit more difficult for parents in 2020. But don't be discouraged. We've compiled a list with fun activities to celebrate your baby's first year, including social distancing.
Smash Cake
Nothing is more adorable than the baby's first bite of cake. The look on a baby's face when they first taste cake can range from shock to confusion to elation. Some babies even cry. We love the idea of giving your baby their very own smash cake to celebrate their first birthday. What is a "smash cake"? A smash cake is a smaller version a regular cake that your baby can use to make whatever they like. While some mamas love to bake at their local bakery, others enjoy the experience of making one at home. This healthy smash cake is great for those who are concerned about sugar. Your baby doesn't care who made it. They will end up smashing, squeezing and pounding the cake. Some go in just for the taste. It doesn't matter what their reactions are, it's an amazing experience and one you will want to document. Instead of being distracted by your camera, set up a photo shoot for your first birthday (keep scrolling), and make sure to include your smash cake.
First Birthday Photo Shoot
You know by now that the years fly by so fast. It seems like your baby was just born. It seems like a year has passed. You might consider hiring a photographer to capture your baby’s personality and favorite things. Exposed toes, bellies or thighs are essential for a first birthday photoshoot. The following are some things to consider when planning a birthday photoshoot:
Location Are you a keen walker? Is there a park you love? Ask your photographer if you're not sure where to go. You will find that they have many favorite spots. It is also a great way for them to keep their social distance.
Time of Day: You don't want to schedule a photoshoot at naptime. Otherwise, you will end up with photos of a cranky and tired baby. You should plan for a time when your baby is most relaxed and happy.
Snacks are a must! A pouch of puree or puffs can save your life if your child gets hungry during the shoot. Bring whatever their favorite snack!
Additional outfits: Have a few outfits ready and take them along. You all know that diaper blowouts can happen at the worst times. It's always a sweet choice to buy a first birthday onesie. You can customize them to your heart's content with ours. Our professional designers can help you if you have an idea but need help bringing it to life.
Toys and Props Balloons. Toy trucks. Smashed cake. Comfort items. Bring it! These photos will be cherished for many years. What are you going to keep most precious memories of this special time with your baby?
Chalkboard Sign Get one of these personalized chalkboard sign to help you remember every detail of your shoot.
Do you want the shoot to be about the baby? Do you want some family photos? This will assist you in outfit planning, blow drying, and other tasks.
It's likely that the photoshoot won't go as planned. You should be prepared for this. It's a success as long as you get some good shots.
Plant a Tree
Although this one might seem unusual, I am serious. Imagine if a tree in your backyard grew alongside your child each year. This tree could be used to take photos of your child's birthday, first day at school, and prom. You can also see its growth over time. No yard, no problem? Get a new houseplant. You can do it now, for my daughter's November birthday.
Car Parade
You've likely heard of the Birthday Car Parade. Parents can create a fun way for their children to celebrate during a pandemic. This is an alternative to having a party in person if you have a large network of friends and/or large family members nearby. This is a great set-up for the introvert me. I can talk with people for a very short time and still be able to wish my loved ones a happy birthday. These sweet thank-you cards can be used to make a small gift for your guests. A birthday car parade is a great way to meet everyone and celebrate this important milestone in your child’s life.
Ideas for First Birthday Gifts
A book is my top choice for a gift if gift-giving is your preferred method of expression. A book will be something they keep for many years. You can also give it as a keepsake to them. Each of my children received a letter from me on their first birthday. I either wrote it right inside the book cover or taped it inside. They enjoy going back to the letters and hearing me talk about their first year over and over again. Most likely, you'll get toys, clothes and other items. You'll likely get toys, clothes, etc. from your loved ones. Let us know what book you choose!
Whatever way you celebrate your baby's 1st birthday, make sure to enjoy it. This is a big moment for you all. Congratulations, mom and dad! You've survived sleepless nights, experienced a love that you never thought possible, and raised a beautiful child. You've done all this for over a year. You are worthy of being celebrated. Cheers!
Since every baby grows at his/her own pace, measure the baby's height for the best fit. It is much more accurate than going off of the baby's age. Call us with any questions and we will be happy to help you determine the best fit for your baby.
